Adventure comes in many packages. We are fortunate to have fairly flexible jobs that are intense during a season but provide a lot of time off over the summer and during christmas time. (academia offers a great lifestyle with full time pay!). So, we can’t go on a full time adventure, although we dream about it. But what we can do pack in a lot of adventure on the weekends, during time off from work and holidays.
“Simply said, find a way (I know, easier said than done). If being outside, seeing new places, camping under the stars, or road tripping is your passion; then find a way! It’s okay to be a weekend warrior, it’s okay to only have a week of vacation time to see the place you’ve been dying to get to, and it’s even okay to make a day trip. The reality is you don’t need to make a cross-country trip in order to live a life of adventure.” Tyler McKay – theoutbound.com
Also, adventuring doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. We are VERY frugal. Not because we have to be, because I can’t stand the thought of wasting money and not getting value. So, when we decided to go across the country and buy a camper for national park camping, we set a very low budget. We will use for a year or, two then sell it, netting a very low cost on the camper overall. We will use our regular food budget to eat, splurging every once in a while on authentic cuisine in the cities we visit.
This year our adventure is a tour of some national parks out west. Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, etc. Using our vacation time and little bit of savings, it should be a blast! What will your adventure be this year?
